Historic First Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) in Manila
This forum is a historical achievement for Filipino-Chinese Business in the Philippines as it is the first time the BFA was hosted by the country. The event was held on April 22-23, 2019 at the Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila hotel in Taguig City. The forum aims to tackle and think of common solutions for shared issues regarding development in a number of Asian countries.
This initiative also aims to further enhance the economic and trade cooperation of China and the Philippines. Spokesperson Arroyo shared that the forum would be key to solidifying the Philippines as China’s number one partner in trade. Chinese-Filipino companies were highlighted in the forum through different booths set up around the venue.

The BFA announced that the forum aims to, “build a new communication and cooperation platform for government, business, and academic leaders between China and the Philippines as well as China and ASEAN.” It aims not only to help in the development of economies but to provide more employment opportunities for the working sector of multiple Asian countries.
One of the main focuses of the forum is innovation. According to the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Chairman George T. Barcelon, the focus of the forum is to share ideas. PCCI is one of the Philippine industries that greatly benefit from collaborations with Chinese investors. The PCCI is also one of the most notable partners of BFA 2019. It is included in a long list of notable companies that were invited to attend the two-day forum.
